Our Association

Vision

Our vision is to provide an inclusive body for the Sudanese groups across Victoria integral to the wider Australian community.

Mission

Our mission is to:

  • Organise cultural, social, religious, and sports activities for the Sudanese community in Victoria.

  • Provide support to women, children, the elderly and other  groups within the community.

  • Represent the Sudanese community in the public arena. 

  • Provide support to community members in times of stress and despair. 

  • Lead the way for community projects in education, health, technology and other areas.

History

The Sudanese Community Association was established in the state of Victoria in 1996.

The idea of ​​establishing the association began as a discussion between Abd al-Rahim Ahmed, Adel Abbas, Adel al-Balla, Muhammad al-Hassan and Omar al-Mubarak, and in light of the discussion the first meeting took place at Abd al-Rahim Ahmad’s house at the end of March 1996. A temporary committee was formed to run the association, which met on April, 9th 1996. A draft for the constitution was developed by this committee.

The first General Assembly Meeting (AGM) for the association was held on April, 22nd 1996, in the presence of: Adel El-Balla, Naglaa Othman Hassan, Burhan Tatay, Bakri Hassan Bakri, Abdul-Rahim Ahmed Abdel-Rahim, Muhammad Ibrahim Hassan, Jamal Mohiuddin, Ali Hajj Muhammad, Omar Al-Mubarak Nizar Muhammad Al-Ma'moun, Siham Al-Akam, Amani Munir Zaki, Awad Othman and Adel Abbas. The constitution draft was passed at the meeting and thus became the Association's first constitution. The first members of the Executive Committee were also elected, with the membership of: Adel Muhammad Abbas as Chairman, Amani Zaki as Vice President, Omar Al-Mubarak Amin as Treasurer, Adel Al-Ballah as Cultural Secretary, Nizar Muhammad Al-Mamoun as Social Secretary and Abdul-Rahim Ahmed as General Secretary.

Finally, the current name of the association was chosen which is Sudanese Community Association of Victoria (SCAV) and the association has been serving the community since then.
